APPLE Collab with LG

LG is already working on a second-generation mixed-reality headset for Apple

LG Display is prepared to supply Apple’s second-generation mixed-reality headset with micro-OLED display panels.

Sunic System is thought to be ordering deposition equipment for micro-OLED panels from LG Display. Apple’s second-generation mixed-reality headset would reportedly employ the equipment to design and produce a micro-OLED display screen.

While LG Display is thought to be a component of the supply chain for Apple’s first-generation headset, it is not expected to deliver the main display, with Sony reportedly providing the main micro-OLED display panel instead. Only normal OLED display panels are thought to be available for the device’s exterior “indicator” screen, according to LG Display.

APPLE second generation mixed reality

LG intends to capture Apple’s primary micro-OLED display orders from Sony with the second-generation headset. This is also considered to be in Apple’s best interests, as Sony’s PlayStation VR headsets will compete with Apple’s headset.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated late last year that the company was already working on a second-generation headset, which would have a lighter design, a better battery system, and higher performance owing to a quicker CPU.

According to Kuo, the second-generation headgear will be available in the second half of 2024, around two years after mass production on the first-generation device is expected to commence.
