Customers will be able to designate several posts as uninteresting and conceal suggestions for posts that contain specific words, phrases, and emojis.

The parent company of Instagram, Meta, has said it is exploring new features that will give users greater control about what they view.

The picture and video app is presently testing two new features that allow users to label multiple posts in the explore area as uninteresting and conceal suggested posts that contain specific words, sentences, or emojis in the description or hashtag.

“We’re exploring the ability to flag several posts in Discover as not interested,” said Meta in a blog post. We will promptly remove such postings and stop displaying posts with similar material to you in the future.

We’ll also soon begin testing the option for users to indicate that they do not want to view suggested posts on Instagram that contain particular words, sentences, or emojis inside the description or hashtags. You may use this tool to cease viewing information that doesn’t interest you, whether you’re seeing something that isn’t pertinent to you or have become disinterested in something you formerly liked, the statement continued.

According to experts, Instagram’s change is a part of the app’s larger drive to increase transparency and give users more control over their feeds.

In an effort to compete with TikTok’s rising popularity, the app has added a variety of features over the past two years that tried to give algorithmically produced material rather than postings users have elected to follow.

“We recognize that individuals seem to want separate stuff from various sessions, or their hobbies or requirements from Instagram change fast over time in a way we’re not likely to be able to express in our ranking alone,” Tessa Lyons-Laing, Instagram’s director of marketing, said.

We will never stop trying to customise, relevant, and engagingly provide information to you through our ranking systems.

Instagram’s algorithm now gives recommended posts based on earlier engaged material and has a limited capacity to expose users to new hobbies and communities, a feature crucial to the success of its competitor, TikTok.

As part of the statement on Tuesday, Meta also provided advice on how users might increase the amount of content they view on Instagram. The app added the option to alter sensitive content restrictions to view more or less of specific sorts of sensitive information, in addition to explaining favourites and following, not interesting control, and the possibilities of the sleep recommended posts function.

After receiving harsh criticism from its users who said the app was aiming to become more and more like TikTok, Instagram recently decided to temporarily decrease the amount of recommended posts that users view. The rollout of the additional features happened at the same time.
