After targeting churches in NW Nigeria, gunmen kidnap hundreds of people

A regional member of the government claimed Monday that gunmen from a terror cell kidnapped 36 people after targeting six people and two churches in Nigeria’s northwest Kaduna state.

Bandits, or fully armed groups, are destroying portions of northwest Nigeria, and also the incident on Sunday occurred 2 weeks after hijackers murdered 40 people inside a strike on a church in the typically safer southwest.

Three dozen individuals were kidnapped by gunmen who ravaged three areas before assaulting the Maranatha Baptist Church and St Moses Catholic Church in Rubu, Kajuru region, local police commissioner Samuel Aruwan said to AFP late Monday.

According to him, three persons were slain in the attack.

“We have discovered that the bandits who invaded the communities in Kajuru local authorities on Sunday abducted 36 individuals,” Aruwan added.

“Two of the prisoners, including a village chief, were released yesterday.
